“ Fibromyalgia (FM or FMS) is characterized by chronic widespread pain and allodynia (a heightened and painful response to pressure). Fibromyalgia symptoms are not restricted to pain, leading to the use of the alternative term fibromyalgia syndrome for the condition. The symptoms and disease hamper a person’s everyday life. Fatigue, sleep disturbance and join stiffness are just some of people report. Others have trouble swallowing, bladder and bowel abnormalities, numbness and tingling and even cognitive dysfunction. Sometimes patients exhibit psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety or even posttraumatic stress disorder. Imagine having this syndrome or disease and having to deal with it on a daily basis. The exact cause is unknown but believe to involve genetic, neurobiological and environmental factors.
